10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t fun for most of us. But it is important. As the winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve collected throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a home?
The exterior of your house could likely use some tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your house in Centennial, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save money in years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time of year to clean your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are searching for places to build homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you too much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows can be a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your house, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem counter-productive since you’ll still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washing service can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, brick or another material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use in the summer, so it is easy to overlook it during the winter since you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio could be in bad shape the first time you walk onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common home roof problems in Centennial. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your house, it’s a great time to clean your roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different process than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then let it be. This solution will eliminate any organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is probably what most people passing by see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and will probably encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
You can clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll probably be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is an excellent opportunity to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an exact area outside your house – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your house so much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a huge impact on the overall look of your house.
Eliminate weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you’ll be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
You can probably complete these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Centennial Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
